Please be aware of scams
We are seeing scammers impersonating our team and selling experiences we do not offer. This page explains what to watch for, what Oak Island Legend actually offers, and what to do if you have been targeted.
The only thing we sell is the tram tour.
Our one and only visitor experience is the 2-hour guided tour of Oak Island aboard the Money Pit Express, plus admission to the on-site Interpretive Centre and the Treasure Shop. If anyone is selling you something else and using our name, or the name of a cast member, it is a scam.
Romance scams impersonating Rick Lagina
Rick Lagina — a co-owner of Oak Island and one of the stars of The Curse of Oak Island — does not contact members of the public through direct messages on Facebook, Instagram, dating apps, WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other messaging platform. Neither does Marty Lagina or anyone else from the search team.
If someone claiming to be Rick has reached out to you privately — especially if the conversation turns to gifts, money, cryptocurrency, gift cards, a private meeting, or a romantic relationship — it is not him. Do not send money. Do not share personal or financial information. Do not continue the conversation. Report the account to the platform and block it.
Fake meet-and-greets, VIP packages, and add-ons
Scammers are selling experiences we do not offer, sometimes on look-alike websites, in social-media messages, or through third-party ticket resellers. If you are being offered any of the following under our name, it is not us:
- Meet-and-greets with the Lagina brothers, cast members, or the search team
- “VIP” packages, private tours, or after-hours access
- Behind-the-scenes tours, private digs, or artifact viewings
- Accommodations, hotel packages, or bundled travel bookings
- Merchandise sold through unofficial online shops
- Investment opportunities, sponsorships, or partnerships in the treasure hunt
The only place to book our tour is through our official booking partner at tickets.oakislandlegend.com, which you can also reach by clicking Book a Tour anywhere on this website. Anywhere else claiming to sell an Oak Island experience is not affiliated with us.
How to verify a legitimate message from us
We only ever communicate with the public through these channels:

Any email we send comes from @oakislandlegend.com. We will never ask for gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payments to a personal account. We will never ask you to send money to a cast member, and we will never message you privately claiming to be one.
If you think you have been targeted
- Stop communicating with the scammer. Do not send more money and do not share any further information.
- Report the account to the platform it happened on (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, a dating app, etc.). Most platforms have a "Report" option on the profile or message thread.
- If you have already sent money, contact your bank, credit-card company, or the payment provider (e.g. Zelle, PayPal, Western Union, the crypto exchange) as soon as possible. Some transactions can be reversed if reported quickly.
- Report the scam to your local police, and in Canada to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501). In the United States, report to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and, for social-media impersonation involving cross-border money, the FBI’s IC3.
- If the scam involves our name, our brand, or a cast member, please let us know at marketing@oakislandlegend.com so we can help alert others. Please do not pay a "recovery" service that contacts you claiming to be able to get your money back — those are almost always follow-on scams.
