How to Get Here
Directions, transport, and everything you need to reach Oak Island.
Getting to Oak Island & Western Shore
Oak Island sits on Nova Scotia’s South Shore near the community of Western Shore, about an hour southwest of Halifax. The Oak Island Interpretive Centre — where all tours depart — is at 5 Oak Island Drive, Martin’s Point, NS. A car is the most convenient way to get here, but there are options if you’re travelling without one.
Driving from Halifax Airport (YHZ)
Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) is roughly a 75-minute drive away.
- From the airport, follow Highway 102 South toward Halifax.
- Take Highway 103 West (the South Shore route) toward Bridgewater.
- Take Exit 9 toward Western Shore / Chester Basin.
- Follow Highway 3 to Western Shore and watch for signs to Oak Island Drive.
Scenic alternative: For a slower, more picturesque drive, follow Highway 3 the whole way along the coast through Mahone Bay and Chester. Allow extra time.
Car Rental at Halifax Airport
All major rental companies operate at YHZ:

Seasonal Considerations
Tours run weekends from May through October. Coastal weather can change quickly — pack layers and a rain jacket regardless of the forecast. In peak summer, book accommodations and rentals early, as the South Shore is a popular destination.
